The term ‘EAL’ is used to describe a diverse group of learners for whom English is an Additional Language.
At St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School, we aim to ensure that we meet all the needs of the children who are learning English as an Additional Language. We value and welcome the cultural, linguistic and educational experiences that pupils with EAL bring to the school. Our intention is to give status to EAL children’s skills in their own language(s) and acknowledge the time it takes to become fluent in an additional language.
We encourage pupils to use their first language to explore concepts and implement a range of strategies to ensure that EAL pupils are supported in accessing the curriculum. Our aim is to help and support pupils in becoming confident and fluent in speaking, understanding, reading and writing in the English Language in order to fulfil their academic potential.
If you would like any more information on how to support your child at home, please contact the school office and ask to speak to Mrs Semlyen - EAL Leader.
