Assessment
At St. Anne’s we strive to ensure that all children reach their full potential in all areas of the curriculum. Assessment is key and an essential area of our everyday practice. Formative assessment is ongoing and takes place daily throughout lessons in all year groups. Formative assessment allows our teachers and support staff to adapt and develop teaching and learning on a continuous, ongoing basis.
Summative assessments are more formal assessments, which take place at the end of each term. Both summative and formative assessments provide the teacher with the opportunity to ascertain the achievement of an individual child in relation to the relevant National Curriculum Programme of Study. A combination of test scores and the teacher’s professional judgements are used to make judgements in Reading and Maths. Writing is assessed against specific criteria relating to the National Curriculum.
Foundation assessments are measured against the end points that are outlined in the Scheme of Work. The results from these assessments inform future planning and children’s learning, those that are identified as needing extra support as well as those needing further challenge.
In EYFS and Year 1, phonics is assessed as priority in line with our Phonics programme. This is an essential part of the development of early reading and allows teachers to implement any catch-up sessions where required in a timely manner.
