Welcome to St Andrew!

Our teacher is Mrs Mancey. Have a look at the amazing things we have been doing!

Please see the weekly guidance timetable for our class below.

Japan Day

To celebrate the start of the Olympics in Tokyo we held a Japan day. We learnt an opening ceremony dance and took part in activities such as oragimi, soduku and Japanese inspied crafts. We even had a Japanese menu on the day with teriyaki chicken!

Circus Day

We were lucky enough to enjoy a circus day within our last week of term. We learnt different skills such as: plate spinning, flower batons, diabolo and balancing a feather. Take a look at what we got up to!

Grounds Day

The idea was to get the children outside to learn whilst enjoying the beautiful world that God has created for us. We had some worries about the weather however, although it was cold, the sun shone and the children had an amazing day, taking part in a range of activities chosen to make the most of the grounds we have at the school.

In Key Stage One and Early Years, we based our day around the children’s book, Stick Man, by Julia Donaldson. We told the story in the schools recently developed woodland area. Here the children were able to explore the trees and look for their own ‘stick family’. The children spotted birds’ nests (built from sticks!) and we even saw the schools resident squirrel high in the trees.

Throughout the day, every child was given the opportunity to plant some bulbs in the schools grounds. When the bulbs grow, they will make a beautiful, colourful display, which will also serve as a reminder of the brilliant, very tiring day that we all spent outside learning.

This term we have been learning about shapes. We explored why squares were special rectangles and talked about the properties of different shapes. The children can name shapes and say how many sides and corners each has.

Our English topic has been fairytales, where we rewrote the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We thought about our character and wrote brilliant descriptions of them. We then thought about the story, setting, the problem and we were most excited abut writing about the villan in our story! Mrs Mancey has made our stories into books for our book corner.

In Creative afternoon we learnt how to weave!

In Year R we have been learning how to create repeated patterns. We used shapes, colours and even fruit which we printed into repeated patterns.

We have also learnt about matching. We matched socks, shapes and Numicon. We also matched a block design that the adults had made for us.

In R. E. We have been learning the Creation story. We learnt that God made the World for all of us and that we all need to look after the beautiful things that he created. We went on a walk to find some of the things that God created for us and created some artwork with them.
